WHAT IS DARK DRAMA?
def. dark drama – a short or feature length story about a protagonist who starts off with good intentions but who, often due to trauma, tragedy, addiction, ignorance or just bad decisions, may (or may not) spiral into dark places.
WHY IS DARK DRAMA
an important emerging genre?
Unless you've been in a cryogenic state for the past decade, you're already and likely even painfully aware of the radical cultural, environmental,
cognitive and social shifts taking place in the world.
But dark drama films are not simply about trauma, tragedy, the fateful decisions we all make, and how that shapes us. These films are typically explorations of re-connection – either through their protagonists and storylines, or simply through the viewing audience itself, who stand to benefit from greater (self)awareness of theses hifts and dynamics,
and especially of their possible resolutions.
We're honoured to be described by one of our participating filmmakers as "brave enough" to take on serious subjects, in a seriously rewarding way.
Enjoy the films!
